The Zwaanendael Museum was built in commemoration of Delaware’s first European colony, Swanendael, established by the Dutch in 1631, the museum serves as a showcase for the Lewes area’s maritime, military and social history.

Known as "the first town in the first state," Lewes is uniquely situated where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Delaware Bay. It's adjacent to Cape Henlopen State Park and its Seaside Nature Center, which offers a wealth of opportunities for recreational activities and nature hikes. A peaceful beach town with plenty of charm.
