Its southeastern point is home to the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which at 93 feet is the tallest brick lighthouse in the United States. Cape Hatteras is of interest to oceanographers; and to naturalists who come to study the diverse range of wildlife species found. It's also known as a prime spot for shipwrecks, earning it the nickname "Graveyard of the Atlantic."
